Hi! I’m Mimi, a doctoral student in the Community and Regional Planning PhD program at UT Austin.
I research transportation and housing, with health as the connecting thread. My dissertation focuses on the governance of Medicaid transportation benefits, or what I call "safety net mobilities," and how these systems shape the livelihoods of providers and the lives of the patients who rely on them. I'm also engaged in research on tenant organizing and health, tax-exempt affordable housing, and healthcare access.
My work is motivated by both professional experience in planning and personal experience supporting loved ones through illness, caregiving, aging, and the complex systems that surround them. Beyond my research, I volunteer with hospice and hope to pursue training as an end of life advocate (doula).
